The boys basketball team looks to keep their season alive tonight against the Warren Central Warriors in the semifinals of the Sectional 10 tournament. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. at Lawrence Central High School.
Warren Central, who knocked Arsenal Tech out of the tournament on Tuesday, is ranked no. 13 in Indiana in the Coaches’ Poll. For comparison, the Panthers are not currently ranked in the top 20, but have been as high as 15 this season.
Defensively, North Central’s primary concern is stopping Warren Central junior Malik Stanley. Stanley leads the Warriors with 21.4 points per game to go along with 4.1 rebounds per game.
The two teams met once this season, a game which occured on January 31. The Warriors defeated North Central 63-61 in a victory that kicked off a nine-game win streak that is ongoing.
Junior Mike Elliot sees the sectional matchup as a chance to get revenge for the previous defeat.
“I feel like we’re gonna go harder, because the first time we didn’t play our best…we should’ve beat them the first time,” Elliot said. “I feel like I have to do my job like I’ve been doing the whole season: knocking down shots…leading the team, and if we ever get down…bring energy off the bench.”
The winner will face either Lawrence North or Crispus Attucks in the sectional championship on Saturday at 7 p.m..
