For the first time since the creation of the MIC in 1996, the Panther football team will be competing for a conference title. The Panthers are currently 6-2 and in first place in the MIC standings. A victory over Ben Davis tonight would clinch the MIC title.
Only one of the football team’s two losses this season have come against a conference opponent: a 28-7 defeat against Warren Central on September 6. For this year’s sectional, the Panthers first round matchup will come against none other than Warren Central.
Last season, the Panthers defeated Hamilton Southeastern and Fishers en route to their first sectional championship in 25 years. A second drought was ended this season, as the football team defeated Center Grove and Carmel in the same season for the first time ever.
Head Coach Kevin O’Shea is familiar with postseason success, having won five Class 1A state championships while at Lafayette Central Catholic. O’Shea has continued his personal tradition of success while at NC. He lead the Panthers to their first regional birth since 1993 last year, where they lost to eventual state champion Warren Central. The Panthers are looking to reverse this fate this year and make it past the Warriors. First on their plate, however, is tonight’s MIC-championship-clinching clash with Ben Davis.
