Three wrestlers went to Bankers Life Fieldhouse for a chance to win a state title this past weekend. Seniors Jamichael Watts and Devontay Moore and junior Logan Galbraith represented our school in the 81st Annual IHSAA Wrestling State Finals.
On Friday Feb. 15 Galbraith lost to Center Grove’s Brayden Little in the 120-pound weight class. Little remained undefeated and ended up winning the state title.
Moore, in the 182-pound weight class, lost to Jay County’s Mason Winner in the first round of tournament action. Winner ended up losing the next round and did not qualify for finals.
Watts beat Merrillville High Schools Anthony Atria in the 285-pound weight class. His defeat punched Watt’s ticket to wrestle on Saturday Feb. 16.
Watts lost in semifinals to Alex Cartwright of LaVille, who remained undefeated on his season. Watts placed third at state with a 6-5 win over William Crider of Harrison.
Wrestling season has come to a close with one wrestler placing overall in state out of the three who competed.
