The boys basketball team starts sectionals Friday, March 2, 2018 against Warren Central at Warren Central High School.
They will try to win sectionals for the third season in a row. Last season, they defeated Lawrence Central in the first round, Cathedral in the second and Lawrence North in the championship.
Warren Central is going to be a tough task as they are yet to lose a game this season with a perfect 26-0 and number one ranking in the state. In their lone matchup with North Central, Warren Central won 72-46.
Warren Central is coming off a victory over Arsenal Tech 57-34 in the first round of sectionals on February 27.
North Central holds a record of 7-14 on the season and is currently ranked 102nd in the state of Indiana. While an upset is a possibility, it takes one good game on both ends of the floor to win.
“Limiting turnovers, making free throws, and staying strong through the whole game will lead us to victory,” Center Charlie Peterson said.
Making baskets will be an immense part to success for the team and most importantly, staying mentally tough.
“As a team, we will have to stay calm and collective. We need to get stops and put the ball in the rim,” guard Caleb Pack said.
North Central will be looking to utilize their scorers and whether or not they take care of the ball will determine if they win the game, they also have to depend on their bench players to maintain the flow of the game.
“Don’t let them take the ball from us,” senior Michael Rogers said. “If we play solid basketball and play hard we should win.”
It will be a tough game and they will look to make the enormous upset.
