Over the summer, senior Isaiah Ware went to California for the nationals meet in track and field. There were many teams from all over the country there to compete against Ware and his team.
Ware and his team ended up getting fourth out of 30 teams. In the 4×400 meter event, Ware ran a personal best at 48.8 seconds while the team finished up with a time of 3:15.86. Ware expected his race at the meet to be at a moderate pace.
“The race was a lot faster than I was expecting it to be,” Ware said.
Ware explains that his team did many other things while in California for nationals.
“We would sometimes go to the track to practice, go to watch other events, or go to the mall to hang out,” Ware said.
Competing at this level takes a lot of skill and hard work. Ware runs for the Indiana Storm and for North Central. Ware competes in the 100, 400, 4×400, and the 200m run for NC. He has high expectations for the track team this year.
“I am hoping that more juniors and seniors take it to the next step this year so more of us can qualify for state. That’d be big,” Ware said.
Ware also has high expectations for himself for college and beyond. He hopes to attend Oregon University to run track and field. After college, Ware plans to keep running competitively.
“I hope to attend the 2020 Olympic games to support the United States. That would put me on track to be a professional track athlete so I can do what I love,” Ware said.
