The boys tennis team is looking to win the MIC tournament this year. They started off strong Sept. 13 not losing a match in the first round.

The The Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC) was originally started as a “football conference.” As Carmel, Warren Central, Ben Davis and North Central grew in size and in football stature, it was more and more difficult to find opponents in that sport, without traveling around the Hoosier state or across the borders. The “Super Conference” as it was originally nicknamed, sent out invites to schools throughout Indiana, with hopes that four more schools would join.

The conference is held up of eight teams: Ben Davis, Carmel, Center Grove, Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, North Central, Pike, Warren Central. The MIC tennis tournament is held at Ben Davis and begins on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 5:30 p.m.

Each player will be competing for an individual championship. Whatever team wins the most matches is labeled the MIC champion. They do a random draw to see who plays who which makes it a very enjoyable match to watch as some of the most talented players face off.

The boys tennis team dominated as the MIC began on Sept. 13 at Ben Davis. Ian Brady beat the Pike no.1 singles player and Brian McAuley beat the no. 2 player for Warren Central. The whole team dominated as the top seven did not lose a match. Two doubles, Josh Gerstein and Carter Bailey, had a tough match against Center Grove but clinched the win.

Carmel has won the MIC for 10 years straight and the NC tennis team looks to break their streak. The MIC championship is on Saturday Sept. 15th, starting at 8:30 a.m. Come out and support your Thers’!
